MG Motor’s electric car Windsor EV has become the company’s best-selling car in India. It contributes more than 65% to the company’s total sales. Launched in October 2024, this EV was a huge hit in the market, and then in May 2025, MG launched its updated and more feature-rich version MG Windsor EV Pro. Both versions received a great response, 15,176 units of Windsor EV and 8,000 units of the Pro version were booked in just 24 hours.
Now MG Motor has increased the price of Windsor EV Essence Pro. Let’s know what is its new price now and is this EV still worth the same?
MG Windsor EV: Price increased by ₹ 21,000
When the MG Windsor EV Essence Pro was launched in May, its starting price was set at ₹ 17.49 lakh. This price was only for the first 8,000 bookings. But when the bookings were full within 24 hours, MG increased its price by ₹ 60,000 to ₹ 18.10 lakh. At that time, its price in the BaaS (Battery as a Service) model was ₹ 13.09 lakh, plus ₹ 4.5 per kilometer battery rental.
Now in July 2025, MG has again increased the price, this time it has been increased by ₹ 21,000. The new Windsor EV Essence Pro has now become a little more expensive than before, as its ex-showroom price has been increased to Rs 18.31 lakh. Although the company has not clearly stated the reason behind this price hike, it is believed that this decision has been taken due to increased manufacturing costs.
Model | Windsor EV Essence Pro |
Ex-Showroom Price | ₹18.31L (↑ ₹21,000 from ₹18.10L) |
BaaS Price | ₹13.31L (Saves ~₹5L) |
Battery Rent | ₹4.5/km |
Battery Size | 52.9 kWh |
Range | 449 km |
Fast Charging | 60 kW (20% to 80% in 50 min) |
Save up to Rs 5 lakh in BaaS model
If you choose the option of renting the battery instead of buying it, i.e. BaaS model, then the price of Windsor Essence Pro is reduced significantly. In this option, you will get the car for just ₹ 13.31 lakh, i.e. a direct saving of about ₹ 5 lakh.
Battery rent will remain ₹ 4.5 per km, and you will also get MG’s Assured Buyback plan under which you also get the option to return the car after 3 years or 45,000 km at 60% of the ex-showroom price.
Windsor Exclusive Pro is also a great option
MG has another version called Windsor Exclusive Pro which is priced at ₹17.25 lakh (₹12.25 lakh in BaaS model). The same ₹4.5 per kilometer battery rent applies here as well. However, this version is missing some high-end features like Level 2 ADAS, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging and powered tailgate. The top version also gives you more colour options.
No new features, no changes
It is important to understand that the price of the Windsor EV Essence Pro has increased, but there has been no change in the features or technical specifications. While the standard models come with a 38 kWh battery, the Windsor Pro version gets a larger 52.9 kWh battery that gives a range of 449 km, while the standard version has a range of 332 km.
Interestingly, all versions have the same 136 PS and 200 Nm torque electric motor. Talking about fast charging, the standard version charges at 45 kW while the Windsor Pro gets 60 kW fast charging. Charging from 20% to 80% takes 45 minutes for the standard version and 50 minutes for the Pro version.
If you use a 7.4 kW AC charger, the battery takes seven hours to fully charge. Under certain conditions, such as the model or capacity of the battery, it can take up to nine and a half hours to charge.
Is it still beneficial to buy?
If you are looking to buy a practical EV that offers range, features and affordability all-in-one, the MG Windsor EV Pro is still a great deal. Especially with the BaaS model, its price becomes even more attractive. Yes, if you want top features, you will have to pay a little more but given the market buzz, this EV is still considered a great deal.
